Grand opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
October 3rd, 2006
Dear Friends,
God has been so awesome with this Community Breast Care Project. As most of you know after 4 years of meetings, prayers, fundraising and good old hard work on the house, we were finally able to open our doors. We tied pink ribbons on the lampposts on Capitol Street and High Street for Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Oct. 1. We had our ribbon cutting and open house on October 3 which was a huge success. We are in the process of getting volunteers to keep the house open as much as we can. Currently we try to be open 11:00-1:00 MWTH 9:00-1:00 and 4:00-6:00 Tuesdays.
OUr purpose is to provide a comfortable place away from doctors offices for women to meet with other survivors, gather information about resources that are available to them etc. We have a breast cancer support group that meets there on the 2nd Thursday each month and our group meets the 3rd Monday of each month.
Since our open house we have had numerous offers of help. Our board is now pretty much in place. We have a real go getter named Lori Smith who has offered her services. We have had several calls from women offering to volunteer there time. We are busy getting the word out about our house - St, Mary’s Health Fair, Capitol Region Health Fair, Governor’s Proclamation Signing for Breast Cancer Awareness. Naught Naught insurance has offered there services to run off any papers. This is a huge help as we give our Breast Cancer Notebooks to as many new patients as we can. Schaffer House is donating $.50 for each bar of soap sold during the month of Oct. Whaley’s is donating for each cherry coke sold.
We are meeting with Luana Gifford and the labor union about how they can help.
Lori Smith has worked with 7 grocery stores in the area that have florists. On Thursday October 19 ( a week from this Thurs) they will be selling corsages to raise money for our project. We are looking for volunteers that could work any time that day probably between the hours (9:00 - 6:00 p.m.) If you can spare an hour or more that day, please email me. Once we know how many people can help we will get back to you as to which store.
Basically we will just be helping the florist and also will have our cards to pass out with each corsage and possibly taking orders that day.
We can pre-order so if any of you would like a corsage, the cost is just $3.00. If you want any corsages and cannot come that day, just email me and I will try to get them ordered
Thanks so much. You have all been such a support to me in the past 5 years. I feel so blessed by all God has done and the wonderful friends he has placed in my life. But the more I am around cancer, the more need I see.
